Symposium Studytour Daidō-shōi Japan

November 2009 we visited Japan with a group of 28 students and 8 professors from Biomedical Engineering and Technical Medicine. The purpose of this visit was research.

Our research question was:

What are the similarities and differences between Japan and the Netherlands on the field of technology in health care?

To answer this question we visited 19 Universities, Hospitals and Companies in Japan.

In this symposium we give you a global overview on Japan. We invited some experts on Japan and we will present our research results. Besides we will give you an impression of our experiences in the fascinating country Japan!

Programme

Persons

Drs. H.A.T. Miedema

Drs. H.A.T. Miedema is the founder of the study Technical Medicine. At the moment she is the Educational director of Biomedical Engineering and Technical Medicine. She always supported our study tour with good advices and practical help.

Chie Misumi M.A.

Chie Misumi holds a B.A. in English Literature from Musashino Women's College, Tokyo and an M.A. in Speech Communications, specialising in Intercultural Communications from California State University, Fullerton, USA. She is a native speaker of Japanese and also speaks English, Dutch and Spanish. Born and raised in Japan, she has lived in the US for two and a half years, in the Netherlands for five years and in Spain for two years. After working for Nippon Television Europe in the Netherlands, she spent four years at Canon Europa N.V., with two years in the Human Resources Department, covering areas such as recruitment, job descriptions, evaluation, training and inductions. She has also provided intercultural management training as a Japanese cultural specialist to companies such as Nissan Europe, Mitsubishi Motors Sales Europe B.V. and Fuji Photo Film B.V.

Dr. Dimitrios Stamatialis

Dr. Stamatialis received his degree in Chemistry (1989) and his PhD degree in material science at the University of Athens-Greece (1995). He joined the Membrane Science & Technology group of the Faculty of Science & Technology of the University of Twente in 2000. First; he worked as a postdoctoral researcher (2000-2002) and later he became staff member (assistant professor (2002-2007) and associate professor (2007- present date)). In the group; I supervise all research projects related to biomedical membranes applications and I teach several BSc and MSc courses in the Biomedical Engineering and Technical Medicine studies of the University of Twente.
